What is high potential and gifted education?

Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Intellectual
At our small school, we believe every child has the potential to excel. Our close-knit community and multi-stage classes use thoughtful differentiation, applying nine key tools—including complexity, challenge, choice, and higher-order thinking—to extend and nurture each learner. The small school setting allows us to provide one-on-one and small group enrichment, enabling students to engage deeply with their interests and abilities. Authentic, real-world learning experiences and varied environments foster motivation and growth. Through exciting competitions in science, maths, English, public speaking, and programs like Super Nova camp, we inspire confidence, passion, and excellence. Together, we nurture curiosity, resilience, and empower every student to shine.
Physical
At our school, we celebrate and nurture every student’s physical potential with a wide range of opportunities tailored to inspire and challenge. Our excellent facilities—including an outdoor astroturf court suitable for tennis, basketball, and hockey; a modified-length football field with full-sized goals; and cricket nets—provide the perfect environment for skill development and team play. We also have a wide range of sporting equipment to support diverse interests. Through our small school swimming, athletics, and cross-country carnivals, students are encouraged to participate and excel, with pathways to zone and regional teams for those who demonstrate high potential. We enrich learning by engaging expert coaches in sports such as volleyball, hockey, AFL, athletics, golf, basketball, and swimming. All students benefit from annual swimming lessons, while our specialised skipping program offers before and after school training and performance opportunities. We actively identify and support students with a passion for physical activity and creativity, connecting them with external clubs and providers in sports and dance. Together, we foster confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong commitment to health and excellence in physical
Creative
At our school, we nurture creativity and celebrate the unique talents of every student. Aboriginal perspectives are deeply embedded in our everyday learning, with students designing and making traditional Indigenous toys, instruments, artworks, and artefacts that honour culture and creativity. We engage all interested students in collaborative projects, such as designing a new school shirt now proudly part of our uniform, and creating artworks for competitions and exhibitions. Our thriving school skipping team performs publicly, showcasing skill and teamwork, while students from K–6 enjoy enriching experiences like attending the School Spectacular to explore dance and drama. Through the Amplify Education program, students receive expert teaching in dance, drama, and music, and have opportunities to connect and perform with peers from other schools in events such as the combined-schools AUSLAN Choir and skipping demonstrations. Together, we inspire imagination, confidence, and a passion for creative excellence.
Social/Emotional
At our school, social and emotional growth is nurtured through meaningful leadership opportunities for students of all ages. Our small school setting naturally fosters daily chances for both older and younger students to lead and inspire their peers. Younger students regularly take the lead by organising games and activities that engage and include others, while older students mentor and guide younger peers through student-led initiatives and fundraising. We also extend leadership learning beyond our school, with students collaborating with peers from other schools to co-host assemblies, participate in workshops, and teach skipping skills. Identified students further develop their skills through external enrichment programs such as writing workshops, attendance improvement plans, and leadership workshops like GRIP and the Tomaree Learning Community Student Leadership sessions. Together, we build confidence, empathy, and strong connections that empower lifelong leadership and personal growth.
